Football Diary with Chase Hounshell

Chase Hounshell, a 6-6 and 265-pound Mentor (OH) Lake Catholic offensive linemen, is fresh off his verbal commitment to the University of Florida. Hounshell goes in depth in his week one football diary about the Gators, coaches and more.

Chase Hounshell Diary -- Sunday, August 22

"A couple of weeks ago on August 11, I officially committed to the University of Florida and ended my recruiting process. I chose Florida over Notre Dame, Boston College, Michigan State, Iowa, Wisconsin, and West Virginia. I took an unofficial visit to Gainesville with my parents the week before I committed and absolutely loved it.

"During my visit I got to take a tour of the entire campus, watch practice, meet all the coaches, see the locker room, walk in The Swamp, meet with the strength coach, sit down with Steve Addazio who is my position coach and the offensive line coach at Florida, and on top of all that spend the entire day with Urban Meyer the head coach of Florida and an Ohio native.

"I cannot say enough of Coach Meyer and his coaching staff and my commitment shortly after my visit tells you how comfortable I felt there. I am very happy I got to make my college commitment before my senior season. After I committed it felt like the weight of the world had been lifted off my shoulders and I have no longer any stress. I am 100 percent committed to the Gators and will be taking no more visits to any other college. I can now focus on being a leader and helping my team win a state title.

"It is officially week one of football season and my football team is ready to go. Less than a week away from our season opener at the Browns' stadium against St. Ignatius. I have never seen my team so pumped up before. We have worked very hard during summer workouts and two-a-days trying to prepare for this week and it is finally here. My team has set high expectations for ourselves and we are looking to come out on August 28 and prove it to everyone.
