Charlie Jones will be one of the most coveted running backs from the state of Florida this coming season and the senior to be from Homestead (Fla.) South Dade likes the Florida Gators and others.
One of the top running backs in Dade County is Charlie Jones, III
from Homestead (Fla.) South Dade High School. Jones, 5-11 and 197 pounds, runs in the high 4.5 range (best time 4.47). Last season as a junior, he rushed for 1,576 yards and 19 scores.
"I am a power runner," Jones said. "I am a North-South guy that breaks tackles. I have some moves too and consider myself an all-around back. I have good hands and can block too. That's the first thing my coaches taught (to block) me."
Jones will be a three-year starter for South Dade. As a sophomore he rushed for 969 yards and 5 scores. In regards to recruiting, Jones is getting plenty of attention but he doesn't have any offers at the moment.
"I like Miami, FSU, Florida, LSU, Georgia and Georgia Tech. I am looking for early playing time and playing close to home. I prefer to stay in-state and I get homesick kind of easy."
Jones carries a perfect 4.0 in the classroom and has already scored 850 on the SAT. He bench presses 330 pounds. Jones plans on attending the Nike Camp at Miami.
