However, at this time the 6-foot-7, 280-pound Smith seems content to take the recruiting process slowly.
"Those are still where it stands," Owings Mills coach Steve Lurz told VTInsider.com. "He pretty much trimmed his list to the schools he had written offers from. I'm not sure when he is going to trim it again."
Lurz added Smith could trim his list in half in the next few weeks.
Smith was in East Lansing, Mich., for last week's stunning overtime win against Notre Dame. He previously told Scout.com he will visit UCLA in December, but the rest of the schools remain in play.
Lurz said Virginia Tech remains an option, and Saturday Smith is scheduled to make an unofficial visit to Rutgers to watch the Scarlet Knights play North Carolina.
On the field, Smith is hoping to reserve the fortunes of the Golden Eagles on Friday when they play Pikesville High (Baltimore). Owings Mills began the season with three straight losses.
"I think the last game was his best of the year (defensively)," Lurz said. "He's playing fine on offense."
