Top Three for Smith

Preston Smith is having the kind of senior year he hoped for. His play is showing the results of some hard work over the summer and his team has an undefeated record four weeks in. In addition to handling the demands of being a senior, Smith is beginning to narrow the focus of his college recruitment. Now that the 2010 season is underway, Smith favors three schools.

"Things are going great," said Preston. "We're 4-0 and we're trying to get better everyday. The offense and defense is all playing well. Everybody is playing well."

Despite being his own worst critic, Smith feels good about his early season returns.

"I feel like I am playing pretty good," said the talented defensive end. "I have a lot I need to work on. I need to get off my blocks better and I need to pursue better, but I am doing okay."

Several schools have been in touch with the Stone Mountain standout, but a trio of schools appear to be separating themselves from the pack.

"Things are pretty much the same, but I have top three now," said Preston. "Kentucky, West Virginia and Mississippi State are my top schools. They are all doing well right now and I don't think I could go wrong with any of them.

"Mississippi State and West Virginia are probably recruiting the hardest. They both make me feel like I am wanted there. I call and talk to them and they have good things to say."

With the list of finalists down to three, Smith has a general idea of when he may want to announce his college intentions.

"I am probably going to decide at the end of the season or during the playoffs," said Smith. "I want to take some visits before I decide, so I can be sure that I fit in."
