ISU recruiting Garden City defensive end

Garden City Community College's Chaz Nelson recently took an official visit to Iowa State and could not have been more impressed with what he saw during his weekend in Ames.

"I really liked it and it was definitely over my expectations," said Nelson. "Right now they are definitely a school that I like a lot."

The 6-foot-2, 235-pound defensive end doesn't have a scholarship offer from Iowa State yet but that could be changing soon.

"They started recruiting this fall and Coach Elliott came and saw my game against Highland and that game I had two sacks," said Nelson. "Since then I have talked with him on the phone and they are definitely recruiting me the hardest. He told me that the rest of the staff wants to look at my film which they should be doing this week. He said that they might be offering me a scholarship at some point in the next few weeks."

Chaz is up to 7 sacks on the season and is also hearing from Kansas and Ole Miss. He redshirted his freshman season so he'll have three years of eligibility at the school that he ultimately chooses. During his visit for the Utah game he got to spend some quality time with Coach Rhoads and really enjoyed the experience.

"He's real cool and down to earth and just someone that I could definitely get along with," said Nelson. "He told me that they need a pass rusher and he feels like I could be the man to come to Iowa State and get him some sacks."
