Tovell Beginning to Come into His Own

Dominique Tovell had high hopes for his senior season, but with their playoff hopes dashed the Columbia High School Wildcats are just playing out the 2010 string. Senior night will take place at Gardner Stadium this Friday and Dominique will put on the blue and gold for the final time as a high school football player. Unlike many of his classmates, Tovell will get to keep playing football.

"We're like 2-8 this year. It's been kind of hard," said Tovell. "It's not what I planned at all. We have had a lot of injuries and that has hurt us."

The trying times have been difficult to deal with, but Dominique reports he is still working hard to become a better player.

"I feel like I am playing good," said Tovell. "I feel like I am doing what I can to help the team. I feel like I have made the most improvement this year at tight end.

"It was all new to me last year and I feel like I am doing a lot better this year. I have worked hard on learning everything."

Recruiters from several local schools have been in touch with Domonique about the possibility of joining their programs next fall.

"I am hearing from Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Southern Miss, Alcorn State, Arkansas, Northwestern State, Southeastern Louisiana, Jackson State and that's about it," said Tovell. "Alcorn has offered me and Mississippi State and Ole Miss just got some new film on me."

The requested footage from the in state rivals is important to Dominique. Tovell likes the idea of representing his home state and he has found some things he likes about both of the Egg Bowl participants.

"They say they like how I play and they just want to see more film on me," said the versatile standout. "I went to camp and I feel like I did good at both of them."

Domonique made a return trip to Starkville last weekend and he plans to check in with the Rebels this weekend. It will be the latest in a string of several in state excursions.

"I went to Mississippi State last weekend for their homecoming against UAB," said Tovell. "It went real good.

"I had a lot of fun getting to talk to the players and the coaches.

"I went to Southern Miss for their homecoming game against East Carolina. I had a good time over there too.

"I have been to Alcorn and to a Jackson State game. I am going to Ole Miss this weekend when they play Auburn."

Domonique believes some new options may soon be coming his way and he is looking forward to learning more about each interested party.

"I want to get a good education," said Tovell. "I am probably going to major in physical therapy. I just want to find a good school where I can play and get my education."
