Scouting: Macomb Lutheran North vs Madison

Madison Heights Madison (MI) rolled on in the state playoffs, defeating Macomb Lutheran North 46-3. The game allowed us to see the Eagles' array of prospects as well as Lutheran North's do-it-all star.

  • Valdez Showers / Running Back-Defensive Back / Sr. / (6'0, 180)
    committed to Florida
Showers is a great athlete who shows that as a high school tailback. He does not project there in college, but it is there where we can see his speed, explosiveness and overall athleticism. As a defensive back, his side of the field is largely avoided, so a game like this does not allow us to see much on defense. I would like to see him be a little more aggressive in run support, but he has the size and tools to be a complete defensive back. Could he play offense at Florida? I think it's possible. His open field ability would make him a good fit in their system. That said, I think his future is still at cornerback or safety.

  • Devonte Snyder / Middle Linebacker / Sr. / (6-2, 215)
Snyder is physical and tough. This game, he was a little bit on the quiet side, but he made a couple of nice stops right up the gut. That is his forte. He likes contact and is not afraid to stick his nose in and make plays right at the point of attack. He'll have to continue to improve in pass coverage and space, but as a pure run stopping linebacker, he's excellent.

  • Danny Larkins / Wide Receiver / Jr. / (6'0, 175)
Larkins had a nice night. He's a decent sized kid who has gotten thicker and he did a nice job adjusting to passes and making catches on underthrown balls. He also showed some ability after the catch and what I like best was that he put his head down and ran over a would-be tackler. This is a kid to watch for next year.

  • Tyree Monroe / Wide Receiver-Cornerback / Jr. / (5'11, 160)
Monroe is known more as a receiver but had more of an impact as a defender tonight, grabbing an interception and breaking up a pass. He also made a nice tackle on special teams. I liked him as a receiver this summer, but in this game, he showed he could play defense too.

  • Nicholas Wallace / Quarterback / Soph. / (6'3, 170)
This kid throws a nice ball and is one to watch. He has good height, puts good spin and velocity on the ball and showed a lot of poise tonight. He's still working on making proper reads and a ball will get away from him now and then, but I like what I see at this early stage of his career.

The Eagles have a couple seniors in Jarred Eason (WR) and Deangelo Dewberry (DT) who will likely find D2 homes. Eason is a solid pass catcher and made a couple nice tackles from his corner spot. Dewberry is a stout tackle who makes a lot of plays, but at 5'11, 250-lbs, is just a little undersized for D2. Junior DT DeVante Hicks (6-1, 274) had a nice game and was disruptive. He's a prospect to watch. If he grows a couple inches, he should get a lot of interest.

  • Zak Bielecki / Safety-Running Back / Sr. / (6'0, 188)
Bielecki is a great player. He is a tough runner on offense and did a nice job on defense. He made a couple nice tackles on Showers in space. He's a tough kid who is always in the right place at the right time and is a solid tackler. I see him as a college strong safety or growing into a WILL backer.

  • J.J. McGrath / Kicker / Soph. /
Young kid with a fantastic leg. Sent almost every kick out of the end zone and hit a long field goal. A D1 prospect.
