Rizzo Checks Out Rivals

Football season for John Rizzo has ended and now he looks to defend his PIAA Class AA Wrestling Championship and visiting some schools when time permits.

Richland (Pa.) junior fullback John Rizzo and his Rams are done for the season, but the talented athlete wanted to get a few trips in before wrestling season started. Rizzo ventured to Morgantown a few weeks ago to see the Mountaineers take on Cincinnati.

"I liked it a lot, but it was different than Pittsburgh and Penn State," Rizzo said. "it is a lot more laid back down there. Before the game one of the support staff gave us a speech and he said a lot of good things and gave us some good advice. They throw the ball a lot, so there isn't a whole lot of use for a fullback. I sat beside Jared Templeton from Tyrone, so we talked a lot about things, since we're fairly close."

This past weekend, Rizzo got another look at the Mountaineers as they invaded Heinz Field for the Backyard Brawl and Rizzo was a guest of the Panthers this time.

"The atmosphere at Pitt was great," Rizzo explained. "As soon as you walked out on the field you could feel how intense the rivalry is. There were a lot of recruits at the game. I hung out with Alkwan Williams awhile since he is from here in Johnstown. I spoke with Matt Dudek for a while about things. The whole atmopshere was the best I have ever seen at a Pitt game. The coaches keep telling me that they are looking at me as a fullback.

Rizzo has started wrestling practice in hopes of defending his PIAA Class AA heavyweight championship.
