Cotton Still Exploring His Options

Walther Lutheran (Melrose Park, IL) three-star safety Sean Cotton had given his verbal commitment to Northwestern, but recently, he hit a roadblock.

"I sent my grades to the admission office, and my ACT score isn't high enough to get into Northwestern," said Sean Cotton.

So on November 22nd, Cotton dropped his verbal commitment to Northwestern, and re-opened his options.

The 6'2, 195-lb safety has looked into his other options, which he showed a strong interest in prior to his commitment to NU. Aside from Northwestern, Cotton has an interest in Purdue, Illinois, Michigan, Michigan St., and Western Michigan. Cotton is currently holding offers from Western Michigan and Minnesota.

During his two and a half weeks of being back on the market, Cotton and a couple other recruits took a visit to Purdue, to see the Battle for the Old Oaken Bucket, a game which Indiana defeated Purdue in overtime.

Cotton's grades aren't a problem. The senior currently carries a 3.2 GPA at Walther Lutheran High School. The only issue is his ACT score. But Cotton has not given up on raising his score. He is re-taking the test, in hopes of earning a higher score.

"Yes, I am taking it Saturday. I've been taking the ACT prep classes twice this week."

Once he receives the results of his ACT test, Cotton said he will explore his options, and made it clear that he still is interested in Northwestern. But this time, he plans on taking his time before making a commitment.

"I'm, going to definitely look into Northwestern again, but I want to keep my options open, and I don't want to rush into a decision again."
