USAAAB Day One: East Top Defense

Team East got off to a strong start on the first day of practice in San Antonio as U.S. Army All-American Week got underway on Monday. The defensive unit is filled with talented players who all have the chance to be difference makers on the college level. A few players stepped forward today and appear poised to be leaders on the squad this week.

Defensive MVP East

Cal commitment Avery Walls really had a nice showing on Monday. Against a star studded wide receiving corps, Walls was consistenly in a position to make plays.

Avery has the ability to run with just about anybody and he has the recovery speed to erase most of his mistakes.

Walls also showed a bit of a physical side even though the day's practice instructions were to keep it light.

Best of the Rest

1. Defensive end Aaron Lynch - The Florida State verbal was one of the better looking prospects on the field today. Lynch has great length and he is very active with his hands. He does a good job keeping people off of him which allows him to control his edge.

2. Linebacker C.J. Johnson - The Philadelphia, Mississippi product is a standout among standouts. He appears to be well liked by his teammates and coaches alike. He took the majority of the reps at middle linebacker and so far he has not found a collision he did not want to be a part of.

3. Defensive back Wayne Lyons - Lyons looks to be set for a safety position in the starting lineup for Saturday. Wayne is quick to the ball and is tough to beat over the top. His attitude and effort on the field is very good.
