USAAAB: Johnson Updates Commitment Status

C.J. Johnson has been committed to Mississippi State for nearly a year, but after seeing his position coach, Manny Diaz, leave for the University of Texas, C.J. considers himself open to all options. Scout caught up with him after Thursday's practice at the U.S. Army All-American Game in San Antonio, Texas.

C.J. Johnson profile

"I had the chance to talk to Coach Wilson last night before I went to bed," said Johnson. "He said some good stuff. I still have some more thinking to do."

C.J. reports that he had a productive talk with Coach Chris Wilson and that Coach Dan Mullen will be personally recruiting him going forward.

"I don't really know Coach Wilson as well as I did Coach Diaz, but I believe in Coach Mullen and I believe he is going to do a good job," said Jonson. "I believe he and Coach Wilson are going to work something out."

While the talented linebacker liked what he heard, he was not convinced enough to stay among the ranks of the committed Bulldogs.

"I am decommitted right now and open," said Johnson. "I am going to take my visits first.

"I am going on my visit to (Mississippi) State this next weekend and I just want to get that confidence back that I had with Coach Hud and Coach Diaz.

"I just want to get that comfort level back, because right now I don't feel comfortable."
