"I'm all Miami," Grooms said. "I think it's a great opportunity for me. I've always liked Miami and when Coach Golden got the job there they started recruiting me real hard."
Grooms, 5-10 and 175 pounds, says his relationship with Golden was a big reason for the commitment.
"Me and him have talked a lot and gotten to know each other a bunch," he said. "He believes in me and I believe in him. He's real cool, down to earth, and I think he's gonna do some great things at the University of Miami. He wants me to be a part of it."
The standout running back/cornerback, who picked the Canes over Virginia Tech in the end, could play on either side of the ball in college.
"I played mostly running back in high school but Miami's recruiting me as an athlete," he said. "I just wanna have a chance to get on the field and be a part of something big they got going on down there."
Grooms is already qualified academically.
