The Latest on Jalen Grimble

The father of five-star defensive lineman from Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman, Jalen Grimble, sets the record straight on his recruitment...

Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman five-star defensive lineman Jalen Grimble has been the subject of many rumors and speculation persists about his recruitment.

A commit to USC since last May, Grimble took an official visit to Miami last weekend and will visit UCLA officially this coming weekend.

But as it stands right now, nothing has changed in his commitment to the Trojans.

"Jalen hasn't decommitted from USC," said Jerry Grimble, his father. "There is a lot of stuff out there, and everyone is speaking for Jalen but me and Jalen. He hasn't decommitted. He took a visit to Miami last week and he's going up to UCLA this week. But he committed so early (to USC) that he wants to take a couple of visits. I don't know where all this news is coming from that he decommitted and that he committed to Miami. He hasn't decommitted."

His cousin, Xavier Grimble, a freshman at USC, also made an early commitment, but didn't take any official visits elsewhere.

"Xavier only took one official, to USC, so Jalen thought he should take some visits to look at some other schools," said Jerry Grimble.

Jerry Grimble said that the Miami visit was largely in part of his relationship with new Hurricanes defensive line coach Jethro Franklin and recruiting coordinator Brennan Carroll.

When both Franklin and Carroll were at USC, they recruited Grimble and were one of the first schools to offer him.

"Jethro (Franklin) was one of the first coaches to recruit Jalen and they always had a good relationship," said Jerry Grimble. "He was always good to Jalen so he took the visit down there."

Jerry Grimble said that his son did enjoy his trip to Coral Gables.

"He liked it down there," said Jerry Grimble. "He liked the campus, and the coaches and said everything there was real nice. The only thing he commented on was the distance."

This weekend, he'll visit UCLA officially.

Five schools have been in for in-home visits, with USC, UCLA, Nebraska (John Papuchis), Florida (Brian White) and Miami (Jethro Franklin) all having been in and UCLA head coach Rick Neuheisel will be in this week.

"Coach Neuheisel has been recruiting Jalen since Day One, and hasn't stopped," said Jerry Grimble.

Jerry Grimble said that Jalen is eager to get to Signing Day and close this chapter of his career.

"He's been through a lot with his recruitment and he's ready for February 2nd to come," said Jerry Grimble.

Brandon is in his sixth year with, currently as the West Regional Manager. Prior to joining Scout, he spent three years as an o-line and tight ends coach in the high school ranks.
