Alabama Top 25 2012

The state of Alabama is loaded in the class of 2012, and FoxSports/Scout.com takes an early peak at the Top 25.


1. Kwon Alexander
Oxford High School
Outside Linebacker
Size: 6-foot-2, 210-pounds
Offers: Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Oklahoma, Southern Cal
Quick Hitter: Alexander is physical, great instincts and excellent running sideline-to-sideline. He is considered the best linebacker in the country.

2. Jameis Winston
Hueytown High School
Quarterback
Size: 6-foot-4, 195-pounds
Offers: Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Miami, Nebraska, Ohio State, Stanford
Quick Hitter: Winston is a great decision maker and can beat you with his arm or legs. He is a great leader and excellent athlete.

3. Reggie Ragland
Bob Jones High School
Middle Linebacker
Size: 6-foot-4, 245-pounds
Offers: Alabama commitment
Quick Hitter: Ragland draws a lot of comparisons to Rolando McClain. He's big, fast, physical and very athletic. He can play middle linebacker or grow into a defensive end.

4. Chris Casher
Faith Academy (Mobile, Ala.)
Defensive End
Size: 6-foot-4, 220-pounds
Offers: Florida State commitment
Quick Hitter: Casher is a very athletic prospect with a lot of room to grow. He can play on either side of the ball, but he can become a terror as a defensive end with his speed and defensive knowledge of the game.

5. Justin Shanks
Prattville High School
Defensive Tackle
Size: 6-foot-3, 293-pounds
Offers: Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Southern Miss
Quick Hitter: Shanks is a tough, physical lineman who has only started for one year for the powerhouse program. He does a good job fighting off blocks and has excellent speed for his size.

6. Tyler Hayes
Thomasville High School
Linebacker
Size: 6-foot-3, 215-pounds
Offers: Alabama, Auburn
Quick Hitter: Hayes is an excellent athlete who can play on either side of the ball. He is a physical linebacker, but has speed to play running back. He is very similiar to 2011 Alabama signee Brent Calloway.

7. Chris Humes
Spain Park High School
Cornerback
Size: 5-foot-11, 195-pounds
Offers: Auburn, Kentucky, UAB, South Alabama
Quick Hitter: Humes is a lock-down cornerback with great hips and instincts. There's a reason the ball is not thrown to his side of the field.

8. Justin Thomas
Prattville High School
Athlete
Size: 5-foot-11, 180-pounds
Offers: Alabama commitment
Quick Hitter: Thomas is the fastest recruit in the state. He can take it the distance from anywhere on the field. He is quick, and makes good decisions as a quarterback for the Lions.

9. T.J. Yeldon
Daphne High School
Running Back
Size: 6-foot-1, 200
Offers: Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida State, Illinois, Tennessee
Quick Hitter: Yeldon is a terrific athlete who can run and catch the ball out the backfield. He is physical and tough to bring down.

10. Caleb Peterson
Auburn High School
Offensive Guard
Size: 6-foot-4, 292-pounds
Offers: Alabama, Auburn, Southern Miss
Quick Hitter: Peterson is a smart, strong lineman who can play right tackle or guard on the next level. He is quick off the ball and physical.

11. Alex Taylor
West Limestone High School, (Athens)
Athlete
Size: 6-foot-3, 190-pounds
Interest: Alabama, Auburn
Quick Hitter: An explosive athlete who can play several positions. He has great speed and quick in the open field. He doesn't go down on first contact.

12. Darius Philon
Vigor High School
Defensive End
Size: 6-foot-1, 250-pounds
Offers: Texas Tech, South Alabama
Quick Hitter: Philon has a high motor and plays with a lot of aggression. He is quick off the line and does a great job pursuing the football. He is a vicious tackler.

13. Trae Elston
Oxford High School
Cornerback
Size: 6-foot, 170-pounds.
Offers: Clemson, Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Tennessee
Quick Hitter: Elston is a physical tackler from his safety position and has excellent speed. He will likely move to corner on the next level. Elston reads the ball well and physical enough to stay at safety.

14. Michael Flint
Oxford High School
Offensive Guard
Size: 6-foot-4, 310-pounds
Offers: Auburn commitment
Quick Hitter: A physical lineman who plays left tackle in high school, but will move to the interior as a guard at the next level. He's an aggressive run blocker.

15. Caleb Gulledge
Prattville High School
Defensive End
Size: 6-foot-4, 280-pounds
Offers: Alabama commitment
Quick Hitter: Gulledge can play on either side of the ball. He has a high motor and aggressive. He has excellent size and upside.

16. Kelton Brackett
Blount High School
Cornerback
Size: 5-foot-11, 175-pounds
Offers: South Alabama
Quick Hitter: A physical defensive back who can play cornerback or safety. He makes good decisions and flies to the football. He has excellent hips and quickness.

17. Tre' Banks
Williamson High School (Mobile)
Linebacker
Size: 6-foot-0, 220-pounds
Offers: Kentucky
Quick Hitter: Banks plays with a high motor and tackles with excellent form. He has speed and great running from sideline-to-sideline.

18. Marcus Turner
McAdory High School (McCalla)
Cornerback/Safety
Size: 6-0, 195-pounds
Interest: Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, Georgia, LSU
Quick Hitter: Turner does a great job in man coverage and an aggressive player. He plays cornerback, but may play safety on the next level.

19. Kyron Samuels
Fairhope High School
Center
Size: 6-foot-2, 282-pounds
Offers: East Carolina, South Alabama
Quick Hitter: Samuels may end up as the best offensive lineman in this class. he's a punishing run blocker, technician and smart player. He will move to center this spring.

20. Beniquez Brown
Florence High School
Linebacker/Running Back
Size: 6-foot-2, 195-pounds
Interest: Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee
Quick Hitter: Brown has excellent agility in the open field and runs with power. He is a tough running back and physical linebacker. He will get looks on both sides of the ball.

21. Cameron Broadnax
Hueytown High School
Wide Receiver
Size: 6-foot-2, 190-pounds
Interest: Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, LSU
Quick Hitter: Broadnax's stock will rise this spring and summer. He missed the entire junior season after transferring from Homewood. He is a downfield threat and great athlete.

22. Alphonse Taylor
Davidson High School (Mobile)
Offensive Tackle/Defensive Tackle
Size: 6-foot-5, 330-pounds Interest: Alabama, Auburn
Quick Hitter: Taylor is a monster defensive tackle who could end up on either side of the ball. He has very good footwork.

23. Cassanova McKinzy
Woodlawn High School (Birmingham)
Outside Linebacker
Size: 6-foot-2, 215-pounds
Interest: Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, Louisville, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Tennessee
Quick Hitter: McKinzy is an excellent athlete on both sides of the ball. He had a great junior season and interest will pick up this spring.

24. Daniel Bostick
John Carroll High School
Linebacker
Size: 6-foot-1, 215-pounds
Interest: Clemson, Duke, North Carolina, Tennessee, UCLA
Quick Hitter: Bostick is a very physical linebacker who can play in the middle or on the outside. He does a great job finshing plays and finding the football. He has good instincts and speed.

25. Jay Minor
Prattville High School
Defensive End/Linebacker
Size: 6-foot-2, 230-pounds
Offers: South Alabama
Quick Hitter: Minor is a hard-nosed player who plays defensive end for the Linos. He is an aggressive player who moves well down the line. He won't receive as much attention with high profile players Justin Shanks and Caleb Gulledege on the line, but he is just as good.
