Mordecai Looks to College Future

Jackson Academy put together a championship season in 2010 and Michael Mordecai was a big part of the offensive output. Mordecai was one of the top receiving targets and also served as the team's kicker. As he heads into his senior season, Michael is getting looks from college recruiters.

"I am getting some things from Mississippi State and Ole Miss. I got a letter from UCLA too," said Mordecai. "I am going to junior day at Mississippi State in March."

While schools appear to be recruiting Michael as a place kicker, he believes he can contribute to the team's success in more ways than one.

"I would really like to be a combo player in college," said Michael. "If I had to choose though, I would choose punting and kicking.

"I love being able to out there and make the play to win the game. It's an opportunity to help the team win and I enjoy that."

With a championship to build on, Michael believes JA will be a team to watch again this season.

"I really think we're going to have a solid team again this year," said Mordecai. "We have four offensive lineman coming back and out quarterback. We should be able to throw it around pretty good."

Once his high school career is over, Michael plans to take his talents on the collegiate level in hopes of earning his college degree and enjoying the student athlete experience.

"To me it's mostly about academics," said Mordecai. "I know Mississippi State and Ole Miss both have good academic programs.

"I am going to look at everything when I get ready to decide."
