Kirby Learns of Big News

2012 linebacker Raphael Kirby visited Georgia Wednesday—and left Athens carrying big news.

Coach Mark Richt offered Kirby while on his visit.

"It was great to get the offer from my home state team," Kirby said. "The offer is big, just being 45 minutes away from Athens and always living in Georgia."

Kirby, 6-foot-2, 218 pound, was offered as an inside linebacker.

"I'm an inside linebacker in the 3-4 scheme and an outside linebacker in the 4-3," he said. "It doesn't matter to me which scheme I play in. The gates are open right now."

Georgia joins Florida, South Florida, Mississippi State and Southern Miss in offering Kirby.

"I'm pretty much wide open," he said. "Right now I'm just looking at defensive philosophies, schemes, the atmosphere—things like that."

While Kirby admits he is still early in his own recruiting process, he added the offer from Georgia meant a great deal to him.

"I've always liked Georgia," he said. "They've been a very competitive team in the SEC for years. Coach Richt has won multiple SEC Championships, so Georgia has always been a team I've followed."

As a junior, Kirby reported 120 tackles (69 solo and 51 assists), 21 tackles for loss and three sacks.

"I'm always around the ball," he said. "Sideline to sideline movement, in on almost every tackle. I would say those are my strengths."
