UGA offers big-time Florida DL

Georgia offered a handful of juniors on Tuesday and one of those went to an elite prospect out of the state of Florida.

"Georgia has been showing interest in me lately, but I was still surprised by the offer on today," Jelani Hamilton told Scout Tuesday night. "My coach teaches me history and he told me in class that Georgia had called him and offered me a scholarship."

"Some of the Georgia coaches came through the school to talk to Coach [George] Smith about me back in January and that is when I started to hear from them. I have talked to Coach [Mark] Richt once before on the phone and he seemed cool. He is a nice guy, he wants to make it like a family at Georgia, and he was cool to talk to."

The Dawgs are the 10th school to offer Hamilton. Florida, Florida State, Illinois, LSU, Miami, Rutgers, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas Tech have offered the 6-foot-5, 247 pound junior out of Fort Lauderdale (FL) St. Thomas Aquinas as well.

He knows a little about Georgia and he has the same interest in them as he does everyone else.

"There is a lot of good tradition at Georgia and I know they recruit a lot of top prospects, and that they get a lot of talent up there," said the Scout100 prospect. "I am looking at them now, but I am open to all of the schools recruiting me. I am still young, it is still early on, and I am just looking at my option."

Hamilton said he plans to go see Florida, Florida State, and Miami practice this spring and that he may leave the state as well to see a school like Georgia.

Chad Simmons started out with Scout in 2003 covering top talent in Georgia and other areas in the South. He then moved on to another Recruiting Service from 2004-2008 before returning to Scout the first of 2009 to become Southeast Recruiting Manager.
