Frank Epitropoulos, son of John, was offered a scholarship today by Ohio State head coach Jim Tressel, after attending the Buckeye basketball game against Wisconsin. The Upper Arlington star athlete was obviously thrilled with what transpired.
"Getting offered by Ohio State just feels great," Epitropoulos stated excitedly. "I obviously grew up watching the Buckeyes, so it means a lot to be offered a scholarship by them. When we got there today, they took us on a tour of the facilities, and we met with the different position coaches."
"Later on, we were taken to meet Coach Tressel, and we talked with him for about ten minutes," he added. "At that point, Coach Tressel actually offered me the scholarship. I was with my sister and my parents, so it was a great moment for all of us, especially since both of my parents went to Ohio State."
Epitropoulos, 6-foot-3, 190-pounds, does a little bit of everything for Upper Arlington, and is ranked as a three-star recruit. As a wide receiver, he caught 29 passes for 500 yards and five touchdown catches in 2010. He also starred at free safety, and averaged over 40 yards per punt.
"This offer is great, but so are all the schools that have offered me," he stated. "It shows that all my hard work is paying off. I never expected to be offered, to be honest, and it definitely caught me off guard. I was at camp last summer and did well, and they remembered me being there."
"Ohio State said they are offering me as an athlete, and I could play wide receiver or safety in their system," he explained. "They also mentioned punting for them, which is fine with me. I have no preference on a position, but if pressed to answer I would say wide receiver. I would certainly be willing to play a position and punt. I do all three now, so eliminating one position and just playing on one side of the ball and punting would be fine."
"I have previously made arrangements with Michigan State and Wisconsin to visit their schools, and I'm going to honor that decision to see both of them," he noted. "I don't have set date for Wisconsin yet, but I am going up there. Coach (Bret) Bielema was at my school, and that meant a lot to me. I think a lot of their program and I'm looking forward to seeing their campus."
"Michigan State is another great program, and I'm more than likely going there next weekend," he continued. "They have a great coaching staff, and I was there for camp last year and liked it a lot. I want to see both schools, to be able to check out all my options."
