Powell Pulling in Offers

Bedford (Ohio) defensive back Tyvis Powell is at six offers, including two from BCS schools.

Even at 6'3, 180-lbs, Tyvis Powell made it clear he is a cornerback prospect and schools are looking at him for the position.

His size and what he has shown on tape has earned him six offers, from Buffalo, Ohio, Minnesota, West Virginia, Western Michigan, and Toledo, and a host of others have been through during the spring evaluation.

"Ohio State came by. Michigan State came by. Bowling Green came by. Pittsburgh came by. Syracuse came by. NC State came by. Illinois came by and that's probably it for all the big name schools."

West Virginia was one of the more recent offers, and Powell had a chance to see Morgantown.

"I went down for the spring game. I love it. I could see myself being there. I went in with Coach Dunlap, the secondary coach. He was showing me film from last year. The LSU game. I like the packages they run. There's a certain package they put in on 3rd down and he told me if you're a good athlete, you can play as a true freshman. I like that."

In addition, Powell says he liked the facilities and the rabid fan base.

"The fans came out and supported the spring game. There were a lot of people there."

He has not had a chance to find out as much about the Golden Gophers yet, but they have offered both him and his teammate, defensive end Myles Hilliard.

"They came to visit me and then came to my track meet and watched me run. The next day, they called my coach and told him they were offering me. I am going to visit them sometime in the summer."

In addition to the Twin Cities trip, Powell says he has one camp stop planned for the summer months.

"I think I'll go to Ohio State's camp for sure, then map out rest."
