Baker's List

Fresno (Calif.) Central quarterback Mike Baker was one of the standouts last Friday at the Elite 11 Regional Camp in Palo Alto. Working with a group of quarterbacks that featured the top two rated quarterbacks in the West in Zach Kline and Connor Brewer, Baker more than held is own as he was often coached up by former Fresno State quarterback Trent Dilfer…

Mike Baker (6-3, 192) is confident in his game. The two-year varsity starter is one of the top quarterback prospects in the West. However, he is not getting the same attention as some of the other top quarterbacks in the region.

"This is high energy camp with the top quarterbacks around," said Baker. "I would say I was one of the top guys out here, I was in the group with Zach Kline and Connor Brewer."

Kline and Brewer, Cal and Texas commits, respectively, were two of the top performers last Friday. While Baker doesn't have Kline's arm strength or Brewer's footwork, he was one of the most accurate throwers on the day.

"I could've done better in the golden accuracy contest in the end," added Baker. "My footwork was good, and the coaches said I was one of the most accurate kids out here."

One of the coaches at the Elite 11 Regional Camp was former Fresno State Bulldog quarterback and Super Bowl champion Trent Dilfer.

"He was with me from the beginning," Baker said of Dilfer. "He told me I had a good release point, and he gave me some coaching tips. That I was dropping the ball a little bit that was fixed, and he was happy about that."

Baker currently holds one offer with many schools showing interest. He also plans to camp at least five different schools.

"I still got the SDSU one," said Baker. "I'm going to USC, UCLA, Arizona, Arizona State, and Fresno State [camps]…and those are still my tops still."

He received the San Diego State offer last summer after camping at the Aztec camp in Clovis. Despite head coach Brady Hoke and offensive coordinator Al Borges leaving for Michigan, new Aztec offensive coordinator Andy Ludwig kept Baker's offer on the table.

Oregon State and UCLA have been by Central to evaluate Baker this spring. He says Arizona will be by this week as well, and he would like to see a few more programs visit.

"I hope Notre Dame comes as Tee [Shepard] tells me," added Baker. "I hope USC comes by and Washington might come down."

Baker remains open but says three schools currently standout for various reasons – Arizona, Fresno State, and USC. All three have been recruiting him, however, only the Bulldogs will get to see him in full pads at their team camp next month.

"Coach [Jeff] Grady and Coach Pat Hill are going to be on me at the Fresno State team camp," said Baker. "They want to see how I perform with the team that's what they are waiting for.

"I just got to keep my head in the film, make sure my film [study] is there and keep working hard in the weight room."
