Bucks Set To Land Another?

Last week Ohio State landed commitment number seven with the announcement that Cleveland St. Ignatius tight end Blake Thomas had pledged to the Buckeyes. Tuesday evening, Ohio State offered Bedford defensive back Tyvis Powell, and like Thomas, a commitment should be coming soon.

Not sure what jersey number Tyvis Powell will wear in college, but it sure appears the Bedford (OH) star defensive back is about to become number eight for Ohio State, as in the eighth commitment for the 2012 recruiting class.

Tuesday evening, Powell received the news he had been longing for, that Ohio State was offering him a scholarship.

"I got the call from Coach (Jim) Tressel tonight, and it's still hard to believe," Powell stated. "My head coach (Sean Williams) told me to expect the call tonight, and I think I stared at my phone all evening waiting for it to ring. When Coach Tressel told me he wanted me at Ohio State, I almost passed out."

"Coach (Taver) Johnson told me I was his guy, and that means so much to me," he continued. "I've had a lot of contact with them recently, and Coach Johnson was at my school yesterday, so I kind of hoped this was coming. This is the offer I've always dreamed about, and Ohio State is my favorite school."

With several other offers in hand, including West Virginia and Minnesota, one might think Powell would be willing to wait things out and see what else comes his way. But, that might not be the case.

"I'm really planning on taking that offer this Friday, to be honest," he admitted. "I want to talk it over with my mom and my coach, but that's where I'm leaning right now. I have to talk to my coach about everything regarding accepting the offer, but I believe I am 100% positive that's the only school for me."

Powell, 6-foot-4, 185-pounds, is a three-star prospect that is versatile enough to play any of the four defensive backfield positions at the next level.
