Here is some news and notes on prospects from around the South.

  • Atlanta (GA) Mays wide receiver Jonathan Williams has added an offer from the Rice Owls. Wake Forest has also offered this receiver.

  • Lakeland (GA) Lanier County offensive lineman Jeremy Daniels picked up an offer from Vanderbilt this week.

  • Florida and Georgia had coaches at West Nassua to see the Jamboree they hosted on Thursday night. The top prospects there were John Theus, Kelvin Rainey, and Derrick Henry.

  • South Carolina looks to be in good shape with Yulee, Fla. tight end Kelvin Rainey, but keep an eye on the Miami Hurricanes.

  • Alabama is the leader for quarterback Will Gardner. The Douglas (GA) Coffee signal caller was offered by the Crimson Tide recently and he plans to camp there this summer.

  • Tarboro, N.C. running back Todd Gurley has recently added offers from Georgia, Georgia Tech, Minnesota, and Virginia Tech. He currently favors the in-state schools and Auburn, who has offered as well.

  • Lovejoy (GA) cornerback Rico McWilliams was offered by the Pittsburgh Panthers this week.
  • Montgomery (AL) Carver linebacker Harding Harper picked up two offers this week. Kentucky and South Alabama bother offered him.

  • Prattville, Ala. safety Derrick Moncrief was offered by Mississippi State this week. Things are really starting to pick up for this athlete.

  • Mississippi State offered tight end Jonathan Curry out of Central High School in Phenix City, Ala.

  • Buford, Ga. safety Paris Head has added offers from Illinois and Louisville.

  • Ohio State offered Mirimar athlete Devonte Mathis. He will likely be a slot receiver.

  • Kentucky is the latest school to offer offensive lineman Graham Shuler out of Brentwood (TN) Brentwood Academy.

  • Orlando (FL) Jones OL Duaron Williams was offered by Marshall on Thursday.

  • Purdue and UCF have offered Duluth, Ga. Anfernee Stewart.

  • Michigan State, Minnesota, and Wake Forest have offered Vero Beach, Fla. DE Dwayne Hoilett over the last couple of days.

  • Boston College is the latest school to offer defensive end Francis Kallon out of Suwanee (GA) Central Gwinnett. He has nine offers in the last week.

  • Murray State has offered Columbia Central (TN) athlete Eric Belew.
    Chad Simmons started out with Scout in 2003 covering top talent in Georgia and other areas in the South. He then moved on to another Recruiting Service from 2004-2008 before returning to Scout the first of 2009 to become Southeast Recruiting Manager.
