Batten Keeping Options Open

Palm Beach Gardens (Fla.) Dwyer linebacker Gage Batten is being recruited by numerous teams including the Minnesota Golden Gophers.

"[Recruiting] has really picked up since I transferred into Dwyer," Batten said. "I have an offer from Georgia State and Cincinnati looks really close because they are only six-deep at linebacker and need someone to come in and play right away. I'll be camping at FSU and USF this summer.

"USF looks really good also—they just want to see me move at camp. Auburn really likes me as a fullback and a linebacker. My older brother played full back in the late 90's and is now playing for the Saints."

The Minnesota Golden Gophers are one of many teams showing interest in the 6-foot-1, 224-pound linebacker.

"Minnesota came by Dwyer May 23 I think—the third week of spring ball. I talked to coach [Robert] Reeves that week on the phone.

"We talked about schemes and what they are looking for at inside linebacker. He said coach [Jerry] Kill wanted to see me in person possibility if I could make it up to camp but that's a really long way away from South Florida."

Batten shared a few of the factors he is looking for in a school.

"Education is something that is really important 4.12 GPA and 1910 on the SAT—it's something I take great pride in," he said. "Off the field I'm looking for a home any from home.

"I haven't really narrowed it down. I'm sure I will on some visits but right now I'm just keeping all options open. I like college towns too where the town is built around the college."
