Small's Recruitment Picks Up

Things have started to pick up in a major way for TE Cody Small after he switched from offense to defense. He just added a new offer on Thursday. has the latest on his recruitment.

Cody Small is a player who wasn't really on the recruiting radar after his 2010 where he played Defensive End and recorded 88 tackles and 7 sacks. He has the measurables standing 6'5 230 pounds while reportedly running a 4.58 forty yard dash with a vertical jump of 31 inches.

Small decided to hit it hard on the camp circuit to display his talents attending nine camps this summer with nine more planned over the next two months including attending Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Texas Tech.

The critical decision in Small's recruitment picking up may have been his decision to ask his coach to move to the offensive side of the ball.

"I asked my coach could I play 7 on 7's this year and the next my coach told me I would be playing Tight End/Receiver next year, said Cody. Before that I never heard anything from the colleges about Defensive End but when I got switched to Tight End all these schools came to watch me and that's when they start rolling in offers."

Some schools that have tendered those offers are Wyoming, Air Force, McNeese State, Navy, and his latest offer is from Rice after an impressive football camp which he commented on.

"I did great, didn't drop, running routes good, ran good, said Small. This is second time they saw me at camp. They saw me at camp so they had a chance to see me again."

Some other schools that have showed interest but haven't offered are Texas Tech, Kansas State, and Purdue.

The bigger programs are sure to be paying close attention over the course of Small's senior year which will be his first at Tight End/Receiver hybrid. His coaches are planning to use him in a variety of packages.

"We run a spread offense so I will be a basing out of a receiver position, said Small . We have a Tight End package where I'll be down at Tight End and have a package where I will be at Running Back.

Small doesn't have a set timetable right now seeming to be taking all in right now.

"I kinda like everybody right now, said Small . If Texas Tech does offer me they will be up top and Rice will be up there to. I really like Texas Tech."

"I'm just going to play it out and see what rolls my way and in the end just take my visits and make my choice then, said Small.
