Simmons: Quick Hitters

Here are some news and notes on top prospects from around the South.

  • Greyson Lambert picked up an offer from the Cincinnati Bearcats on Wednesday and he may visit them later this month. He said a visit may take place on July 30 after he camps at Arkansas, LSU, Alabama, Florida State, and Florida. He currently has no favorites.

  • 2013 running back Altee Tenpenny out of North Little Rock, Ark. plans to visit Alabama and Auburn starting on Sunday. He is an elite back with offers from Arkansas and Ole Miss. Do not be surprised if the Crimson Tide and/or the Tigers jump in the race in the coming days.

  • Seffner (FL) Armwood teammates Leon McQuay and Jarvis McCall are set to visit Vanderbilt and possibly Tennessee this weekend. McQuay is one of the most recruited 2013 prospects in Florida and McCall has a handful of offers as well. McCall is a 2012 defensive back that could play corner or safety and McQuay is a 2013 safety.

  • South Carolina has picked up another commitment. They have been the hottest team in the South over the past week. Cody Waldrop is a 6-foot-3, 300 pound offensive lineman that will play guard in Columbia. He will make his commitment official today at 3pm at a press conference. He chose the Gamecocks over Georgia.

  • Memphis (TN) East defensive back Will Redmond named Miami, Mississippi State, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt as his top five last week when he said he was going to commit soon. A new school could jump in the mix this weekend, that school is Georgia. He said, "I have always liked Georgia," when he confirmed he would be at their camp on Friday. He is a 6-foot, 170 pound corner.

  • Vanderbilt target Nathan Peterman visited the Commodores on Monday and he had a good trip to Nashville. "The visit was great and I really enjoyed it there. I really like the great vision Coach Franklin and everything they have done in their little time there. I was really impressed." Vanderbilt, Cincinnati, and Wake Forest are three schools to watch.

  • Oxford, Ala. offensive lineman Michael Flint recently opened his recruitment back up after committing to Auburn last year and two schools have really caught his attention. They are Clemson and Tennessee. He is not close to another decision at this time, but keep an eye on those two schools.

  • Jordan Sherit is a 6-foot-4, 235 pound defensive end out of Tampa (FL) Hillsborough and he informed Scout this week that he has picked up offers from Miami and South Florida. Sherit is in the 2013 class.
Chad Simmons started out with Scout in 2003 covering top talent in Georgia and other areas in the South. He then moved on to another Recruiting Service from 2004-2008 before returning to Scout the first of 2009 to become Southeast Recruiting Manager.
