Arkansas State's new Head Coach Hugh Freeze likes recruiting with the big boys, he isn't afraid to battle toe to toe with some of the top schools in the country over a prospect he believes in.
It appears that Freeze is going to get his wish while recruiting Mississippi's Richie Brown.
Brown told Scout.com and AStateNation Tuesday evening that just picked up another big offer, from a SEC school not to far from his home.
"LSU offered me about 15 minutes ago," Brown said. "I just left Les Miles office, I"m very excited about the offer."
LSU is less than a two hour drive from his Long Beach Mississippi home.
"Right now I'm very neutral," Brown said. "I plan on taking several visits to make sure where I want to go. I want to see different campuses, Arkansas State is one of the places I want to visit."
Brown, a 6-foot-2, 225-pound defender, ran a 4.4 forty recently at a camp.
"Most schools are saying safety, some are saying outside linebacker," Brown said. "I'm going to take my time and choose the best school for me both athletically and academically."
Brown is rated by Scout.com as a three star prospect and is ranked the No. 61 outside linebacker in the country.
Brown recorded 151 tackles, three sacks and two fumble returns for touchdowns as a junior, while rushing for 333 yard and seven touchdowns.
He was named second team All-State by the Mississippi Association of Coaches.
Red Wolf Passing Game Coordinator Grant Heard is recruiting Brown for Arkansas State.
"I have spoken to Coach Heard a couple of times," Brown said. "He is easy to talk to and seems to be a great coach. I have gotten a few handwritten letters from him.I definitely have some interest in Arkansas State."
