Brown at Big Dawg Camp

Ryan Brown, the three-star DE from Archbishop Shaw (Marrero, La.), committed to Mississippi State last month and he was in Starkville today - along with four of his friends - for MSU's Big Dawg Camp.

"I'm just getting out of the camp," said Ryan Brown late Friday evening. "I'm feeling real good about my commitment to Mississippi State. The Big Dawg Camp made it even stronger."

Brown, who hails from the New Orleans metro area, traveled to Starkville with fellow commits Quadry Antoine (Belle Chasse HS) and Torrey Bell (John Curtis Christian. Joining that trio were St. Augustine three-star DT Marcel Andry and Helen Cox (Harvey, La.) LB Royce LaFrance.

"Torrey (6-5, 230) did well at the camp, said Brown. "He has good feet. Marcel was very physical. He's transferring from John Curtis to St. Augustine, and he was talking it up (about this year's Shaw/St. Aug game). He's a Purple Knight (St. Aug mascot).

"Royce is very competitive. He was my partner during the weight room workouts."

The camp was serious business, according to Brown.

"There was a real responsibility, coming in as a commit," he explained. "You have to fill shoes and prove that you're the best. There were some players calling out the commits in one-on-one drills, saying 'I want him!'

"I liked the weight room aspect of the camp. It was very intense. People were yelling and the rap music was playing full blast.

"After that, we went back down on the field and did position drills. I worked on pass rushing moves, and the coaches taught me some new moves."

Brown, who originally committed to South Florida before switching to MSU, makes up one of the best defensive lines in the south along with DT Romello Dixon and DE Stephen Gibson.
