Houston Youth: 2013 DEF Players to Watch

Lots of talent this season is in the Houston area. And many of the top guys are underclassmen. Here is a look at a few of the defensive players to add to your watch list.

Jeffrey Alegria, Seven Lakes
Jacobi Hunter, Cy Falls
Deon Hollins, Marshall
Brandon Jones, Nimitz
Torrodney Prevot, Alief Taylor
Hardreck Walker, Westfield

Quick Take: Because of his athleticism, Hollins could play as a defensive end, but is projected to be a linebacker type. He has gained plenty of attention this off season from Big 12 (Texas, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Texas Tech-offer) and SEC programs. Hunter holds a Baylor offer and is strong as an ox. Keep an eye on Walker as Westfield coach Corby Meekins is confident that the his tackle is the next great defender in line. Prevot, who is hearing from a lot of programs, is one who could add some weight to his frame. When that happens, watch out.

Tyree Gray, Klein Forest
Reginald Chevis, Sharpstown
Jordan Harrison, Dobie
Deoundrei Davis, Cy Woods

Quick Take: Some hard-hitting youngsters in this bunch. Gray could be the leader of this pack, but with his build could end up playing on the line in the future. Dobie coach Jim Phillips is high on the potential of Harrison sees him having a breakout year. Sharpstown's Chevis is a workhorse, the type of player who put in the extra work to be great. He showed well at plenty camps this past summer.

Jeremy Land, Langham Creek
Latravien Gee, Jersey Village
Victor Davis, Rosenberg Terry
Zachry Newman, Marshall
Devonte Dotson, Pearland

Quick Take:
Good group of players here and expect all of them to have good showings this year. The 6-foot-1, 181-pound Davis is the only one with a Division I offer, Tulsa. But all of these guys will get noticed. Land is hearing from LSU and Oklahoma while Baylor, Kansas State and Houston have shown interest in Newman.
