From the Road: 2012 Top Five

Recruiting Analyst Chad Simmons saw prospects from close to 30 schools in South Florida over a three day span. He saw practices, games, film, and he names his top five 2012 prospects here.

Many high schools in the Miami and Palm Beach areas received visits from Chad Simmons last week. He had his eye on many prospects of all ages and he names the Top Five seniors he saw here.

  • Deon Bush – S – 6-2/190 – Christopher Columbus
    Quick Hitter: Long defensive back that is athletic that could play safety or corner in college.
    Recruiting: Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, LSU, Miami, and Purdue are still in the mix.

  • Amari Cooper – WR – 6-1/185 – Miami Northwestern
    Quick Hitter: Physical wide receiver, with good hands that can go vertical or across the middle.
    Recruiting: Alabama, Florida State, and West Virginia are top three.

  • Travares Copeland – ATH – 6-0/ 190 – Treasure Coast
    Quick Hitter: Could play a number of positions on the next level. Cornerback could be where he has most upside.
    Recruiting: Has options as a QB and WR – Cincinnati, South Florida, UCF, West Virginia, and others are still being considered.

  • Kevis Jones – LB – 6-2/210 – Northeast
    Quick Hitter: True football player – He plays hard, he is gritty, and he will likely settle in at linebacker. Could be an inside or outside guy.
    Recruiting: Committed to UCF.

  • Tracy Howard – CB – 5-11/185 – Miramar
    Quick Hitter: Cornerback with good ball skills are quick reaction. Can play safety too.
    Recruiting: Odds are high he stays in state. Florida, Florida State, or Miami. He did list Alabama as a school of interest also.

    Chad Simmons started out with Scout in 2003 covering top talent in Georgia and the South. He then moved on to another Recruiting Service from 2004-2008 before returning to Scout the first of 2009 to become South Recruiting Manager. After less than three years, Simmons was moved to National Recruiting Analyst in July 2011.
