IE Quick Take: Chris Brown

Hanahan (S.C.) product Chris Brown added his name to the growing list of committed players for Notre Dame in the class of 2012.'s Dave Berk offers his first take on verbal commitment No. 15 for Brian Kelly.

Following his official visit to Notre Dame (Sept. 18), wide receiver Chris Brown ended his recruitment giving his pledge to the Irish. Brown, who never spoke much about the Irish during the process surprised many when word spread he was all Irish.

While the 6-foot-3, 170-pound wide receiver many only be a three-star pledge, he brings some solid skills that fit with what the Irish do on offense.

The first thing that stands out is Brown's length. Brian Kelly likes having receivers in the 6-foot-2 to 6-foot-3 range and Brown fits the mold. However, when watching the Hanahan, South Carolina native on film you quickly see he's extremely strong in one of Kelly's top pass patterns the Jailhouse screen. Play after play you'll see Brown make big plays after the catch.

Brown took his official visit and gave his pledge as he was getting ready to leave. Will there be second thoughts in the months to come? That will be the question as the weeks pass and things settle in for Brown.

On film Brown looks like the type of player who should have success in the Irish offensive attack. He shows great athletic ability and has proven to be a play maker and high producer at the high school level in an offense similar to the one ran by Kelly. Despite the three-star ranking, Brown has the tools to excel at the next level.
