Kirby Gets Army Bowl Nod

It is now official that the Georgia star will play in the post-season at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

(Wharton, NJ) October 11, 2011 – Raphael Kirby of Stephenson High School, Stone Mountain, GA, has been selected to play in the 2012 U.S. Army All-American Bowl, joining an elite group of All-Americans. Those selected will play in the game on Saturday, January 7, 2012, at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. The annual East vs. West match-up will be televised live on NBC at 1:00 p.m. EST and will feature the nation's top 90 high school football players.

"Raphael is a talented athlete whose leadership and teamwork qualities have made him a standout at Stephenson High School," said John Myers, Director of Strategic Communications, Marketing and Outreach, U.S. Army Accessions Command. "Only the strongest wear the Army colors, and Raphael possesses similar mental, emotional and physical strengths to Army Strong Soldiers. We are proud to honor all of the U.S. Army All-American Bowl players and congratulate each of them on their selection."

The 6-foot-2, 218-pounder bolsters an impressive roster for the U.S. Army All-American contest. Kirby is currently rated as the #24 outside linebacker in the country by Scout.com, making him a 4-star prospect.

Kirby is committed to Miami (FL), but is also looking at schools like Georgia, South Carolina, Florida and Vanderbilt.

Scout Eval: "I expect to see Kirby around the ball a lot and he is. He is always in on a number of tackles and he just has a nose for the football. He does a good job of shedding blocks and attacking the football. He shows the ability to play sideline to sideline. Could play inside or outside on the next level." - Chad Simmons
