Here are some news and notes on prospects from around the South.

  • Desmond Lawrence, a 6-foot-2, 175 pound athlete out of Charlotte (NC) Charlotte Christian picked up an offer from North Carolina State on Wednesday. He also has offers from Duke and South Carolina. Scout expects him to play safety on the next level.

  • Tampa (FL) Middleton junior Richard Benjamin received an invitation to play in the 2013 Under Armour All-America game. Benjamin is a smooth athlete that could play wide receiver or safety on the next level. He claims over 20 scholarship offers.

  • North Carolina State let 2013 cornerback Brian Walker that he has an offer from the Wolfpack on Tuesday. Walker is considered one of the top 2013 defensive prospects in the state of North Carolina and he plays at Mallard Creek. Auburn and South Carolina have offered him as well.

  • South Carolina extended an offer to 2013 running back Derrick Green out of Richmond (VA) Hermitage. He has 10 offers now.

  • Citra (FL) North Marion wide receiver Reggie Wilkerson was invited to the U.S. Army All-American Combine on Tuesday. He does not have offers yet, but he is hearing from Arkansas, Florida, Florida State, Miami, and South Florida.

  • Tampa (FL) Jesuit junior wide receiver Travis Johnson let Scout know that he received invites to both the U.S. Army All-American Combine and Under Armour All-America Combine on Tuesday night. He claims over 30 scholarship offers.
    Chad Simmons started out with Scout in 2003 covering top talent in Georgia and the South. He then moved on to another Recruiting Service from 2004-2008 before returning to Scout the first of 2009 to become South Recruiting Manager. After less than three years, Simmons was moved to National Recruiting Analyst in July 2011.
