Louisiana 4A Top 10 Rankings - Week 7

There's a new No. 1 in our Class 4A rankings this week after Teurlings Catholic upset Breaux Bridge last Friday. Read further to find out what's happening around the state in 4A.

(previous week's rank indicated in parentheses)

1. NEVILLE (2) -- (7-0) -- Last week, the Tigers defeated West Ouachita, 42-7. Neville rolled, despite playing without four-star prospect John Diarse (junior QB). The Tigers have limited five opponents to single-digits. Jamond Collins, who quarterbacked a 2010 3A quarterfinalist team at crosstown Carroll, threw a TD pass to Dakahri Hicks to open the scoring. Laurence Jones ran it in from 14 yards for the next touchdown, according to Zack Southwell of the (Monroe) News-Star. An Aravous Pierce run put the Tigers up at the half, 35-0. Neville owns wins over three 5A schools (Ruston, Ouachita and Airline). This week: at Wossman (1-6)

2. ST. THOMAS MORE (3) -- (7-0) -- Last week, the Cougars defeated Northside, 36-20. Head coach Jim Hightower's team scored 22 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to erase a 20-14 deficit. Junior QB Brandon Bergeron threw for 209 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran for 31 yards and a 14-yard TD that capped the scoring. WR Andrew Stevenson, an LSU baseball commit, caught six passes for 119 yards and two TDs. This week: at No. 6 Breaux Bridge (6-1)

3. LUTCHER (4) -- (6-1) -- Last week, the Bulldogs defeated then-No. 7 St. Michael, 45-7. Three-star RB Daniel Taylor ran for three touchdowns, and senior WR Dorian Semien caught a 17-yard TD pass from Ruston Matherne. Nicholas Gatch kicked a 30-yard field goal. Jared Poche also caught a TD pass. Three-star CB Jordan Batiste (pictured at bottom) is committed to Ole Miss. Lutcher has won six straight after losing to Class 5A No. 2 Dutchtown. This week: Belaire (1-5)

4. ASSUMPTION (5) -- (7-0) -- Last week, the Mustangs defeated then-No. 10 South Terrebonne, 48-29. Chris Johnson for 149 yards and a touchdown, according to Teddy Renois of bayoupreps.com. QB Hunter Gauthreaux threw for 228 yards and three TDs. Assumption has scored 143 points in the past three games. In two weeks, the Mustangs take on Lutcher in a huge non-district tilt. This week: Vandebilt Catholic (3-4)

5. TEURLINGS CATHOLIC (NR) -- (4-3) -- Last week, the Rebels defeated then-No. 1 Breaux Bridge, 28-7. It's tough to figure this team out, but one thing is certain: When QB D'Shaie Landor is on fire, the Lafayette-based Rebs can beat anyone. Landor (UL Ragin' Cajuns commit) passed for 260 yards and three touchdowns as Teurlings overwhelmed top-ranked Breaux Bridge at Clark Field. WR Dylan Bossier was Landor's primary target, accounting for 179 yards receiving that included touchdowns of 65 and 73 yards. Three weeks after allowing 60-plus points to 2A Calvary Baptist, Teurlings clamped down on defense against Breaux Bridge, holding the Tigers to 127 yards total offense. This week: Cecilia (3-4)

6. BREAUX BRIDGE (1) -- (6-1) -- Last week, the Tigers lost to Teurlings Catholic, 28-7. Senior WR Travin Dural, an LSU commit, was the lone bright spot on offense. Dural grabbed five receptions for 88 yards and a touchdown. Lamar Louis left the game early (ankle). The Tigers hope to have Louis healthy vs. St. Thomas More's balanced offense. If Louis plays defense instead of offense, the Tigers will need RB Adrian Menard (5-9, 190, Sr.) to pick up the slack. Players to Watch: WR Kavahra Holmes (three-star LSU commit), LB Tyren Alexander (UL Ragin' Cajuns commit). This week: No. 2 St. Thomas More (7-0)

7. EDNA KARR (NR) -- (4-3) -- Last week, the Cougars defeated then-No. 6 Belle Chasse, 25-13. Our preseason No. 1, Karr has won three in a row. Against Belle Chasse, Dejon Robinson accounted for two touchdowns, as did QB Devante Noil. 6-foot-5 junior TE Standish Dobard hauled in a 45-yard scoring strike from Noil. Junior CB Noel Ellis set up a TD with a nifty kick return of a squib kick. Players to Watch: OT Derek Edinburgh (6-7, 340), DL Gerald Willis, DL Leonard Washington, DL Darrian Dyson, WR Jarrell Bennett. This week: Archbishop Shaw (2-4)

8. BELLE CHASSE (6) -- (6-1) -- Last week, the Cardinals lost to Karr, 25-13. Asphen Gaines completed 15-of-18 throws for 155 yards and a couple of TDs. He also rushed for 42 yards, according to Greg Fischer of nola.com (Times-Picayune). Three-star safety Quadry Antoine is committed to Mississippi State. This week: O.P. Walker (3-2)

9. EAST JEFFERSON (8) -- (4-2) -- Last week, the Warriors defeated Riverdale, 49-16. No other details were available. Four-star DB Derrick Raymond, the nation's 14th-ranked corner, is committed to LSU. He won the state title in both the 100 and 200 meters during the spring. East Jeff has a big district matchup in two weeks vs. St. Augustine. This week: Ellender Memorial (0-7)

10. ST. AUGUSTINE (NR) -- (4-3) -- Last week, the Purple Knights defeated Warren Easton, 48-37. Sophomore RB Leonard Fournette gained 262 yards with four touchdowns as head coach David Johnson's crew won its fourth straight. St. Aug trailed 19-6 before rallying. This week: Riverdale (4-2)

10. MCDONOGH #35 (NR) -- (4-3) -- Last week, the Roneagles defeated Archbishop Shaw, 14-7. Kedrick Banks scored both of #35's TDs, according to Mike Strom of the Times-Picayune. This week: Helen Cox (3-4)
