Dream comes true for Parker Barrineau
"I have known for a little while about this," Parker Barrineau said. "I met with coach Saban, coach Groh and the director of player personnel this summer. They told me they don't have a scholarship, but they want me there. They have invited me to walk-on.
"I will be treated as a scholarship player. I will do everything with the team. I am guaranteed a spot on the 105-man roster. They even offered me to come in January.
"I am taking extra classes now. I will be enrolling in January. I am rooming with Dillon Lee. I am extremely pumped about it. I have just been waiting for a good time to release the info. It's a dream come true.
"I went in this summer and met with the coaches in late June. I really decided this summer because I had to start taking extra classes to get my credits. I just recently became good friends with Dillon Lee. First day of classes are January 10. I don't plan on being the beat-up guy.
"It's an unbelievable feeling to be able to play somewhere like Alabama. They are one of the top 10 programs every year. It's a great feeling coming in with this freshmen class. It's definitely a privilege. I give all the honor and glory to God."
Barrineau was also selected to play in the Alabama/Mississippi All-Star game.
"I'm really pumped about it," he said. "It was great to be selected to play in the game. I have talked to a bunch of guys playing in the game. I talked to Reggie Ragland, Tyler Hayes, Ryan Anderson and Jameis Winston. I talked to Cameron Broadnax.
"I am close to Reggie, Tyler and Ryan. We are real pumped about it. I think we have one of the best teams Alabama fielded. We have a bunch of Alabama commitments and some Auburn commitments. Our back up quarterback is Jonathan Wallace, and he is committed to Southern Miss. It's going to be fun to play with a bunch of guys who are going to play in the SEC."
The class 2A powerhouse program came from behind last Friday night to defeat 6A Alma Bryant. American Christian finished the season with only one loss. They will host in the first round of the play-offs Friday, Novemeber 4th.
"We had a huge game Friday night," said Barrineau. "We were down 29-3 in the third quarter. We came back to beat Alma Bryant. We finished the season 9-1. We had a great second half of the season. We play Mobile Christian this week. They beat Leroy in the regular season. They are the best No. 4 seed in the state. It's a tougher first round than normal."
Barrineau finished the 2010 season with 1,122 yards with 16 touchdowns.
"I have had a good year," he said. "I have around 900 yards right now. I had 1,100 yards last year. I am on track to get that number again. We are running the ball a lot more than we did last year. It's been a good year."
