Houston Commit Talks Playoffs

Patterson (La.) is looking to make a repeat trip to the Class 3A state finals after finishing as runners-up in 2010. Tomorrow, three-star Houston commit Trevon Stewart leads undefeated (but modestly seeded) No. 15 Patterson vs. 18 Brusly (6-4) in the first round.

"We're ready and the community is pumped up," said Trevon Stewart, who is projected as a corner but shines on both sides of the ball (21 TDs) for Patterson. "Brusly has a 6-foot-4 quarterback and their whole offense seems to revolve around him. They have athletes on offense but they're forced to go both ways. Their best running back also plays linebacker, and their slotback plays cornerback.

"With the way we play so fast, I think we can get them tired. We're not going to overlook anyone. If we play the way we're supposed to, I don't think anyone can play with us."

The Lumberjacks ramped up the intensity at practice this week.

"Coach (Tommy) Minton had us going ones vs. ones," said Stewart. "Earl Andrews was at slot receiver, and he and I were going at it. (Four-star LB) Lorenzo (Phillips) was at running back where he and (inside linebacker) Tremaine (Lightfoot) could hit each other. (Three-star WR) Jaydrick (Declouet) played quarterback against the first-team defense."

Both Stewart and Declouet are committed to Houston. Patterson (9-0) has outscored its opponents by a mind-boggling 461-55 margin.
