2013 Manitowoc, Wisc., standout DL Austin Bown has been busy on and off the field this year.
"As a team we started off really well because we had three of the hardest teams our first three games," Bown said. I think we could have done better, but we started off well and ended well."
"Michigan State was pretty awesome," Bown said. "Although I didn't cheer for either team because they played Wisconsin."
The Wisconsin native picked a busy day to visit the Spartans.
"I didn't get to talk to any of the Michigan State coaches because there were probably 70 recruits there," Bown said.
The 6-foot-4, 230 pound lineman also reflected on another visit – one where a coach made a big impression on him.
He added, "Coach Pelini came up to me, he said ‘I am Coach Pelini nice to meet you. Hope you stay in contact with us, we have seen you play ball and we are very interested."
Pelini left a favorable impression on Bown.
"He values academics, I think he talked more about academics to me than athletics," Bown said. "Because he looks towards the future and knows football is going to be done soon and you will have to get a job."
Bown visited one more school during his junior season – Michigan.
"I also went to Michigan, and talked to Coach Madison," Bown said. "Then I talked to the defensive line coach, that was very interesting. They also talked about academics and they were pretty mellow for game."
Bown and his family had scheduled one last visit to Minnesota. Make sure you stay on Scout.com for the latest on Bown and the rest of the Class of 2013.
