Long Beach (Calif.) Poly wide receiver Richard Smith was stunned after hearing that the school where he is committed will be making a coaching change.

Smith received the news from current teammate and friend, Randall Goforth, who is also committed to Arizona State.

"Randall called to tell me," he shares. "I was very appalled. Coach Broussard called me Friday and let me know that it was a possibility, but they didn't know yet for sure. I didn't expect it so soon; I'm just a little shocked."

Where does this leave his ASU commitment?

"Honestly, I'm not too sure right now," he admits. "I'm confused because I've never been in this spot before. I'd say I'm probably like 50% committed now. Hopefully it all works out.

"This just makes my other options a lot bigger now; I'm going to check things out a lot more now."

Oregon State, California, and UCLA are the school s that Smith says will be strongly considered. He plans to schedule an official visit to each after the college football season is over.

He's interested in all three Pac-12 schools mentioned, but the door isn't closed on ASU yet.

"I'm waiting to see who the new coach will be," he says of the program who currently owns his soft verbal.

"And the UCLA coaches got fired too, so yeah, I don't know. I was shocked about that too."

The wide receiver says that as of now, he's sticking by ASU. However, the idea of entertaining other options became a lot more realistic for him after that phone call from Goforth this morning.
