Goins: SU and Tulane 'Haven't Been Current'

The news of Kenneth Goins committing to Maryland was big in terms of the recruiting picture for both the Terps and the Syracuse Orange. He spoke to CuseNation.com about the process.

2012 three-star prospect Kenneth Goins (Baltimore, MD) has had a swirl of success over the last few weeks. He received a late offer from in-state Maryland, led his school to a title and verbally committed to a school he has had interest in for some time.

But it wasn't at all a smooth recruiting process, Goins told CuseNation.com on Monday. Two schools he was initially interested in - Syracuse and Tulane - seemed to lose interest as time progressed.

"I haven't talked to those coaches in a while," he said. "Probably two months."

The versatile running back and linebacker said coaches kept up with him weekly in the early part of his senior season, but have since nearly severed contact.

"I tried to get in contact with them, but they didn't reply back or anything," Goins added. "They haven't been current."

Admittedly worried, Goins attempted to stay the course, but the timing and lack of attention from ‘Cuse and Tulane wasn't right compared to that of UM.

"Recruiting was going slowly," Goins said. "I was trying to stick it out and just be patient with it but finally a school I had (a lot) of interest in came (with an offer)."

That school was Maryland, and he pulled the trigger on his commitment soon after.

"It was like perfect timing, " he said.

Goins remains interested in each school enough to go on official visits in the upcoming months, though his commitment to being a Terp is solid.
