Kozan Hosting Coaches

Alex Kozan is preparing for a state championship game and playing host to college coaches during the open period. He took time out of his busy schedule to give Scout.com the latest on his recruitment.

Alex Kozan comes off as a pretty laid-back kid. That temperament probably benefits him during weeks like this one.

"Right now, to be honest with you, I'm trying to focus on winning a state championship right now," the 6-foot-4. 295-pounder said. "That's my main focus. I'm trying to balance recruiting at the same time. I'm having in-home visits and trying to plan where I'm going for official visits."

Colorado, Iowa and Michigan have dropped in on Kozan this week. He had not heard of any other suitors coming by as of Wednesday night.

"My coach handles all that stuff, though," he said. "So, there could be."

Kozan and his two-time defending, Class 4A Colorado State champion Valor Christian teammates ride a 23-game winning streak into Saturday's title game against Pine Creek at Mile High Stadium.

Scout.com ranks Kozan as a three-star recruit on its five-star scale, but that number is likely to rise when the new ratings come out. He is opening more eyes nationally with offers from Ohio State, LSU, Auburn and Michigan.

Kozan has officially visited Iowa and Ohio State. You can read about his Hawkeye official here. He saw the Buckeyes on Nov. 5 when they played host to Indiana.

"It was awesome," Kozan said. "I got to meet the players; see the environment; see all the fans, tradition and pageantry that goes with Ohio State. It was awesome to meet the coaches even though most of them are going to be gone except for the receivers coach (Stan Drayton) and coach (Luke) Fickell."

Ohio State announced the hiring of Urban Meyer as its new head coach this week. Kozan didn't know how that might affect his relationship with the Buckeyes.

"I've had a little bit of contact with them," Kozan said. "I've talked to Coach (Jim) Bollman, but Coach Meyer hasn't called me, so I'm not exactly sure where I stand. I'm going to find out. I'm looking forward to talking to them."

Kozan was scheduled to visit LSU on Nov. 5 for the Tigers game against Alabama. He went to Ohio State instead.

"I decided against (the trip to Baton Rouge)," Kozan said. "I just think LSU…I mean I like them a lot, I just didn't want to take it during the season. I might take a visit out there. I'm still deciding."

Kozan said he's still looking at Auburn, Iowa, Ohio State, LSU, Oregon, Colorado and Michigan. He is scheduled to officially visit Auburn on Dec. 17.

His remaining two official visits allowed by NCAA rules will come from the group of LSU, Oregon, Michigan and possibly Colorado. He may just use an unofficial on the Buffaloes as they are close to home.
