Bulldogs Visit Brown

Mississippi State coach Greg Knox was in the metro New Orleans area this week to check on his commitments, one of which is Archbishop Shaw (Marrero, La.) DE Ryan Brown. Read further for a recap of the visit.

"Coach (Greg) Knox came by on Thursday and my position coach (Chris Wilson) is coming next Tuesday," said Ryan Brown. "Coach Knox mostly talked about grades and adjusting to college life. We didn't talk as much about football.

"We also discussed when I'm going to take my official visit. I'm going to visit on January 21st and 22nd. My family had already met Coach Knox on many occasions - they know him well. He's a cool guy with a lot of energy."

Knox dispensed some additional wisdom during the visit.

"He gave me the formula for discipline," said Brown. "The main two things are respect and honesty. If you're not honest with your coach, then the relationship means nothing. The other thing was to respect women."

Knox addressed the rumors surrounding MSU head coach Dan Mullen.

"We talked about that. Coach Knox said if they were going to leave, they would have been gone last year," said Brown. "Coach Knox said he and Coach Mullen turned on the TV and saw that Coach Mullen was up for the Penn State job.

"That's how Coach Mullen found out about it. Coach Knox said Mississippi State is Coach Mullen's dream job and they're going to win championships. He said next year we'll be preparing to play in this game (SEC Championship)."

Brown, a 6-foot-5, 240-pound defensive end, led Shaw to the first round of the 4A playoffs this fall. Next Saturday, Brown will be at the Superdome to support fellow MSU commit Torrey Bell (John Curtis) in the 2A state title game.
