Now that his season is over after a tough loss to nationally-ranked Armwood HS (FL), Tashon Whitehurst is ready to take some more official visits. The Syracuse "soft verbal" commit was scheduled to visit Rutgers on December 2, but he and the Gainseville (FL) Hurricanes advanced in the Florida State playoffs.
The Scarlet Knights were late players for the seemingly still-open Whitehurst, a two-star linebacker prospect that may be utilized as a safety at the collegiate level.
"I want to be on a winning team," he told ScarletReport.com upon scheduling his visit to Rutgers."I saw them (RU) beat Syracuse and Cincinnati."
SU finished the season 5-7 and on a five-game losing streak, so schools like RU, Marshall and Iowa State appear to have more of a chance to flip Whitehurst based on their 2011 campaigns. Each school will play in an upcoming bowl unlike the Orange.
Still, the athlete is prepared to visit Syracuse along with several other solid prospects this weekend.
"I'm excited to see Syracuse," Whitehurst said on Sunday.
Whitehurst originally said he would reschedule his Rutgers visit, but he doesn't know the visit plan outside of the trip to Central New York.
