Hawkins Officially a Horn

The University of Texas signed Northwest Miss. offensive tackle Donald Hawkins today.

"This is the best feeling, signing with Texas," said Donald Hawkins. "I've been waiting for this whole thing to happen. There was a lot to do today. I had to sign a couple of things, and earlier in the day I went to the doctor to get my shots for school. It was a busy day.

"There ain't too much people can say other than to wait and watch me at Texas. I'm reporting on January 16th, and the coaches say it's my position to lose. I'm coming in as a starter and intend to keep my position by working hard."

Texas head coach Mack Brown called Hawkins today.

"He's happy I'm a Horn and the Longhorn family is happy," said Hawkins. "Texas also signed Brandon Moore from East Mississippi. The fans seem pretty excited. Texas gets most of its players from out-of-state, and we think we'll be very popular.

"I can't wait to get there. I'm going to work hard. I can't wait to play in front of 100,000 UT fans.

"All the expectations that have been given to me? I'm going to meet them.

"Hook 'em, Horns."
