Semper Fi Bowl: West Offensive Preview

A look at the offensive prospects for the West in the first-ever Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl in Phoenix...

In the year of the Linemen, the West has some of the best guys in the trenches in the country, and one of the winningest quarterbacks in California history.


Wisconsin commit Bart Houston 

There is no shortage of talent in the West's group of quarterbacks.

The headliner is's #4 ranked QB prospect, Bart Houston out of Concord (CA) De La Salle. Houston is currently committed to Wisconsin and is fresh off leading the Spartans to their third straight CIF State Open Division title, the highest classification in the Golden State.

Jeff Lindquist, a four-star prospect like Houston, hopes to improve his stock in the game. Lindquist (Mercer Island, WA) is Scout's #15 ranked quarterback and is committed to play at Washington.

Rounding out the QBs is Penn State commit, Skyler Mornhinweg from St. Joseph's Prep in Philadelphia.


Tarboro (N.C.) running back Todd Gurley
The RB group looks to be the deepest position for the West squad as three four-star prospects will take the field.

Greg Garmon (McDowell Senior HS, Erie, PA), Todd Gurley (Tarboro, NC) and Jonathan Williams (Allen, TX) are Scout's #12, #14 and #18 ranked prospects respectively and all are cast in a similar mold, all standing above 5-11 and 190 pounds.

Look for Garmon and Gurley to announce their college decision in Phoenix, while Williams has committed to Arkansas already.

Tim Wright out of La Marque is listed as an athlete in the game, look for him and local prospect D.J. Foster, a four-star RB slated to play WR in the game, to get some carries.


Notre Dame commit Deontay Greenberry


Deontay Greenberry (Washington Union, Fresno, CA) is the top ranked prospect in this group. The 6-3 180 pounder is a four-star prospect and is being courted by major programs from across the nation.

Vanderbilt has two commitments playing in the game in Cory Batey (Ensworth, Nashville, TN) and Andre McDonald (Hopkins HS, Minnetonka, MN).

Local prospects Josh Weeks (Show Low, AZ) and Javon Williams (Chandler, AZ) look to make a name for themselves on a national scale. Weeks, a BYU commit, plays in a smaller classification in northern Arizona, while Williams play for one of the Grand Canyon State's most talent rich programs.

Penn State commit Jesse James (South Allegheny HS, McKeesprt, PA) is the lone TE on the roster.

Gehrig Dieter (Washington HS, South Bend, IN) and Jaydon Mickens (Dorsey HS, Las Angeles, CA) round out the receiving corps.


Stanford commit Jordan Watkins
Arguably the two top OL prospects in the game are four-star players Ronnie Stanley (Las Vegas (NV) Bishop Gorman) and Jordan Watkins (Woodward Academy, GA).

Stanley has committed to Notre Dame while Watkins, ranked as a DE by, is committed to Stanford.

Highlands Ranch (CO) Valor Christian's Alex Kozan has the ability to play any position on the o-line.

Nathan Dean, Zach Hemmila and Freddie Tagaloa are slated to play at Washington, Arizona and Cal respectively.

Three-star center Matt Cochran (Buhach Colony HS, Atwater, CA) will also handle long-snapping duties.



Georgia commit Marshall Morgan
Plantation (Fla.) American Heritage kicker Marshall Morgan is committed to Georgia.

Los Angeles (Calif.) Loyola prospect Conrad Ukropina will punt for the West squad.
