UA Combine: Kevin Gladney Impresses

Akron Firestone wide receiver Kevin Gladney is one of Ohio's top wide receiver prospects for the class of 2013. At Saturday's Under Armour Combine in Orlando, Gladney impressed as one of the top wideouts in attendance. He spoke to about his performance and his early recruitment.

Two 2013 Ohio wide receivers stood put Saturday at the Under Armour Combine in Orlando, as both Shelton Gibson and Kevin Gladney were among the best in their position group.

For Gladney, the Akron Firestone star built upon an impressive junior season and stood out Saturday, both in individual testing and in one-on-one action.

"I absolutely loved being out here competing with all this great talent," Gladney stated. "The most important thing to me was to have fun with this and compete as hard as I could. I could have done better on the bench press and I wasn't real happy with my shuttle time, but I ran a 4.49 forty both times and I didn't have great starts on either one."

As a top 2013 Ohio prospect, Gladney is not satisfied with his game at all, and he tried to use the combine as a means of getting better as a player.

"I will try to take back with me the lessons these former NFL wide receivers taught us today about everything," he explained. "Like how to get by defenders by using your arms and setting them up by running right at them, to force them to adjust to you."

"I can tell from going against these great defensive backs that I need to get stronger, especially in my upper body," he added. "I'm going to be in the weight room this winter looking to get that done."

Gladney, 6-foot-3, 180-pounds, picked up his first offer a few weeks ago, from Michigan. He discussed where his recruitment stands today.

"The Michigan offer was so huge for me, and it gets bigger to me as time goes by," he admitted. "I've got Michigan very, very high up there for me, especially because they are the first school to really commit themselves to me. I'm looking forward to getting up there to see everything."

"I'm also hearing from West Virginia, Wisconsin and Ohio State the most, after Michigan, and I like all of those schools," he continued. "I want to get out and see all four schools over the next year. I'm interested in anyone that's interested in me right now, and I am enjoying the recruiting process."

EVALUATION: Gladney was very consistent at Under Armour, and was able to separate from some very talented defensive backs. During his junior season, Gladney had some occasional drops, but he caught everything Saturday, some of them extremely hard catches. His size and speed combination is impressive, and as he adds bulk he will be an even tougher matchup.
