Semper Fi Bowl: West Practice Recap Day 3

Who stood out in the New Year's Day morning practice?

Short and sweet practice for the West squad on New Year's Day. They continued to install their special teams, did some skill position 1 on 1's and a short team scrimmage before the players headed over to the Arizona Cardinals game.

Skyler Mornhinweg did not participate so it was Jeff Lindquist and Bart Houston splitting the reps. Both looked solid but I feel today was a break out performance for Houston. He threw the ball very well and threw one of the best deep balls I have seen this week.

Running Backs

Not a lot of action here today but Arkansas commit Jonathan Williams showed nice hands, making several catches in the 1 on 1 session versus the linebackers. Tim Wright also looked impressive with the ball in his hands.

Vanderbilt commit Cory Batey had a breakout performance. He made several nice catches on deep routes, was able to get in and out of his breaks and was the one player to make a catch against Deontay Greenberry, who played DB this morning.

Jaydon Mickens continued his great week but it was Andre McDonald, another Vanderbilt commit, that broke out of his shell. Big receiver, definitely is put together, made a nice grab across the middle and caught a deep ball.

Very light work today for the big boys. The biggest news was the arrival of Notre Dame commit Ronnie Stanley, who was in South Carolina at a basketball tournament.

Tough to make a lot of judgment with the limited time and lack of contact Michael Barton continued to look good running around in space.

Defensive Backs

Without a doubt, the biggest story of the day was Deontay Greenberry moving over from wide receiver and playing corner...and locking people down!

Greenberry used his size and long arms to physically bully receivers at the line of scrimmage. He only had one ball caught on him all day.
