Hurns is a Tackling Machine

Michael Hurns recorded more tackles during his junior season than most players do in their entire high school careers. With 244 personnel stops, the talented Hurns will be a name on the prospect list of every college scout recruiting the Mississippi delta. Hurns is not sitting around waiting for them to come to him though, he is getting his name out on his own.

"I have already been filling out some applications and things for schools that I like," said Hurns. "A lot of them are sending me letters now, but it's just kind of generic mail right now.

"I have had a few thing from schools like Iowa and Oklahoma State and some others.

"I am interested in some schools closer to home too like Mississippi State and Ole Miss."

Michael spent his season at mike linebacker, but he expects to move outside on the next level.

"I like playing defense and I want to go be a part of an exciting aggressive defense," said Hurns. "That's one of the main things for me. I want to play on a defense that has fun and everybody flies to the ball."

East Side went 14-1 last season and fell to eventual state champion Charleston in the North State title game.

Hurns believes his team can get back to the top of the mountain this year.

"We had a great year," said Michael. "I believe it was the best season in my school's history.

"We have most of our players coming back next season, so we feel like we have a good chance to be just as good or even better this year."
