USAAAB: Mike Matthews

TAMU offensive lineman commit Mike Matthews is playing for the West this week in the US Army All-American Game. Matthews discusses the game, the Aggies, and more.

Offensive lineman Mike Matthews is spending his week in San Antonio at the US Army All-American Bowl and has been showing off on the field. "It's been pretty crazy, the practices have been pretty hard. I expected it to be a little easier than this. Yesterday was pretty hard, we went two-a-days, both practices in full pad. It's a good competition, it's been pretty intense."

The game showcases top players from around the country and Matthews has been impressed by the competition. "Ondre Pipkins has been some really good competion, me and him have been going out at it."

Matthews gave his verbal to play for Texas A&M a few months ago and he is set in his decision to play for the Aggies, regardless of coaching changes. "I really liked Coach Sherman a lot, but Coach Sumlin is a great guy, too. I like him a lot. I had the opportunity, he came to my house and talked to me and I really enjoyed talking with him, he's a great guy. I'm really excited," he said.

He's done a bit of recruiting this week, but he's focused on the game. "I've been putting the word out but most of these guys are pretty set on their top two and stuff like that. Really, they already know where they are going, I still give a shootout to A&M though."

Matthews will head to College Station in July.
