2013: Jones Showcases Skills

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Wylie East High wide receiver Quan Jones performs at the Under Armour Combine and then the Army Combine.

Quan Jones, a 6-foot-4, 195-pound big-framed wide receiver showcased his skills and worked with coaches at two elite combines over the last two-weekend stretch.

"It was pretty good. I met a lot of good coaches and they taught us a lot of good technique," Jones said.

He let people in the south at the Under Armour combine, an event that was stacked up with Southeast talent, that Texas football is 'Texas Tough'.

"You know Texas is a rough house state," Jones stated. "We have good strength and toughness in Texas, so be brought that down to Florida with us. We represented Dallas, Wylie, and our school."

He makes a pretty formidable duo with his teammate at Wylie East, Marcell Ateman, also a big-framed guy.

"We just do what we do. We know we got mismatch problems, so we just go along with it.

On the field he compares himself to a former Georgia Bulldog and a current up and coming NFL superstar.

"A.J. Green," Jones said without hesitation when asked who his idol was. "I like his quickness and that he is a vertical threat."

BCS schools like Baylor, Arizona, Mississippi State and Tennessee have already offered, but he is hopeful that list will grow.

"LSU, Oklahoma, Alabama," Jones answered when asked about schools he is hopeful to secure offers from. "They are contacting us already, so they are some pretty good teams right there. That is the top-top schools and we want to play at the top schools. And Texas, because Texas is going to be good for awhile."

Will Ateman and Jones be a true package deal at the end, after they are really close friends?

"We really don't know yet, but we may make a package deal with us. We may go to the same schools, because that is a big mismatch problem and a lot of schools want that."
