CoachSpeak: Brantley on Allen

The Knights of Fort Bend Elkins High in Missouri City, Texas put together a strong season in 2011. With an 8-2 regular season mark, the Knights earned a playoff berth. Coach Dennis Brantley is quick to heap praise on All-District wide receiver Chance Allen who was one of the offensive leaders for the team. Scout was able to speak with Coach Brantley this morning before he began his FCA meeting.

Chance Allen profile

"Chance was a three year starter for us," said Coach Brantley. "He made All-District the past two seasons and he was the top receiver in the district this season with 51 catches and 780 yards."

Allen appears to have the explosiveness that college recruiters are looking for.

"He is probably at his best when the ball is in the air," said Brantley. "He can go up in traffic and come down the with the ball.

"Chance is consistently a 4.56 guy in the 40 which is good for a guy his size. He is not one of those scat type receivers.

"He is a big physical receiver who can use his size to make plays. He is the kind of receiver that can go over the middle, make the catch and then drag the DB for three or four more yards."

Coach Brantley believes one of the main reasons Chance has been so productive over his career is his commitment to stay active.

"He is always doing something," said Brantley. "What I mean by that is he goes from one thing to the next.

"When we get done with football then he plays basketball and then he's back into spring football. Then he gets into 7-on-7 and then into summer basketball.

"He's not a guy who sits around. He's always working on something."

Allen has picked up several BCS conference scholarship offers and he will soon make his college decision after taking a few official visits.

"We have had a lot of people come through here and ask about him," said Brantley. "He has over a dozen offers.

"Iowa State, Minnesota, Tulsa, Mississippi State and New Mexico are just a few of them.

"To my knowledge he has not made a decision yet and he is still thinking things over.

"I am not sure where is going to go, but I know that whoever gets him is going to get a good one.

"I know we're really going to miss him."
