WR McDaniel Reps Gators in Phoenix

North Carolina junior wide receiver Jalen McDaniel is already garnering attention from some big-time programs.

2013 wide receiver Jalen McDaniel spent some time over winter break in Phoenix, AZ at the Proving Ground Combine. Though he's only a junior, McDaniel is already busy with the recruiting process. "It's been crazy, but it's been great. God has really blessed me as a player, as an athlete, and as a student."

McDaniel arrived in Arizona sporting gear from one of his "early frontrunners," the Florida Gators. "I'm a big Florida fan. Virginia Tech, South Carolina…those are my schools," he said.

The Gators have returned some of that interest. I've been to a South Carolina/Gators game. That was very interesting, I had fun. The coaches have been checking on grades, making sure everything is right before a big offer comes, and everything is looking good," said McDaniel.

He also has interest in two other big-time programs: Clemson and Alabama. "My cousin plays basketball for Clemson, Terrell McIntyre, so that's some big family for us," he said. "I've been a Roll Tide fan since I was a little boy, so that would be big for me, too."

McDaniel, who plays for Jack Britt High School in Fayetteville, helped his team go 11-3 last season. Though he also plays safety, receiver is where McDaniel really shines. "Being able to get off the line and route running, I'm really good at route-running. I think that's my best strength at the wide receiver position," he said.
